Information we collect
We collect the information needed to run a spoken-language tutoring service:
- Account information — name, email, and (where relevant) a parent or guardian's contact details for younger learners.
- During a live session, audio is processed in transit between the device and the conversation provider so the session can run. Resulting transcripts, scores, and progress may be stored. Talkallam does not store raw live-session audio by default; a separate pronunciation sample may be stored only when the account setting and any required consent allow it.
- Usage and progress data — session length, CEFR-level progress, completed lessons, and similar activity.
- Basic device and technical information needed to deliver the app reliably.
Pre-launch waitlist
If you join the waitlist, we record your email address, selected site language, the version of the consent shown with the form, and the submission timestamp that records when you agreed. We use this waitlist record only to send Talkallam launch updates. We do not sell waitlist data. To withdraw from launch updates or ask us to delete your waitlist record, email hello@talkallam.com from the address you submitted.
How we use it
We use this information to run available tutoring features, generate feedback and progress information for the learner, secure and support the service, and improve the tutoring experience. Oversight reports for parents, teachers, and program administrators remain planned pre-launch features rather than a currently available shared dashboard. We do not sell personal data.
Children's privacy
Public child-account activation and live voice for children and teenagers are unavailable during pre-launch. Email one-time-code verification confirms access to a guardian's inbox only; it does not grant verifiable parental consent or activate the child. A public minor voice experience will remain closed until an approved consent method, near-real-time moderation, server-initiated termination, and field safety acceptance are in place. If you believe a child has provided us data unexpectedly, contact us.
Data sharing
Limited data may be processed by services needed to operate an available feature, such as infrastructure or conversation processing. The final subprocessor list, processing locations, and applicable safeguards are still being completed and will be published before individual accounts and tutoring sessions are opened. We do not sell personal data to third parties.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data. No system is completely secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information transmitted to or stored by the service.
Data retention
We keep personal data only for as long as it's needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. Exact retention periods per data type are being finalized and will be published here before individual accounts and tutoring sessions are opened.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. To exercise any of these, contact us using the details below.
Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when our practices change, and note the date at the top.
